Pastor Eugene Montgomery Obituary

Pastor Eugene Montgomery, age 88, of Cedartown transitioned March 8, 2026. Eugene was born in Six Mile GA to the late Forest and Daisy Howell Montgomery on October 31, 1937. He was the baby boy of 14 children, Jack, Charles, Joseph, Bill, Allen, Geneva, Tervolia, Emma, Ethel Ruth, Mary Ann, and Sara, all of whom have preceded him in death. He was educated in the Floyd County area and lived his early adult life in Rome, GA. Affectionately known as Gene by those closest to him, he was taught the value of family and how important a Christ centered life was to sustain.

He joined the Flat Rock Baptist Church at an early age where he was baptized in the little creek across from the church. Gene traveled all over the North Georgia area singing quartet with his family and friends. One of his favorite past times was to call and reminisce with his family singing and talking about old times. He loved to sing the songs that brought us over. In his early years he was previously married and to their union was born Danny, late Rev. Charles (Cynthia), Debra, Beverly, late Willie (Tojoe), and Elisha (Late Dennis), and Glenita Seagraves. Gene later met and married Emma Cofield August 17, 1964 whom affectionately called him sweetie. Their bond has been unbreakable, and to this union 3 children were Dexter (Nicole), Darryl, and Daisy. After moving to Cedartown, Georgia he joined the Wares Grove Baptist Church where he served in various ministries.

You would see him dressed in different brightly colored suits on his way to sing with the male chorus and choir. He accepted his call to ministry and pastored the Pleasant Gap Baptist Church where he served faithfully. Gene was a bi-vocational Pastor and working many years to provide for his family. He retired from Angelica in Rome, GA to enjoy the golden years with his family. You could often find him working in yard and sitting out on the porch talking on the phone. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Emma. His children: Danny Montgomery, Debra Stocks, Beverly Montgomery, Elisha Price, Glenita Seagraves, Dexter (Nicole) Montgomery, Darryl Montgomery, and Daisy Montgomery. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, great grands, and an abounding number of other family. One brother-in-law John Thompson.
